All the jobs I've had from first to last


  • Bagging groceries at the commissary on the Charelston AFB, Charleston, SC: 1972
     At this job, I loaded groceries into bags and carried them to customer cars.  Shortly after getting this job, my father was transferred to Altus, OK, so my family moved to there.
  • Food service worker at Harkin's Dairy Queen in Altus, OK: 1973
     I worked this job only during the summer.  While there, I helped cook short order meals and make ice cream desserts.
  • Newspaper Boy for Altus Times and Democrat in Altus, OK 1973-1976
     I delivered daily newspapers to my route of customers on the U.S. Air Force base where my family and I  lived.  I kept this job while attending high school, and while working other short jobs.
  • Food service worker at Sonic Drive In in Altus, OK: 1975
     During my senior year of high school, I tried working a job while going to school.  After four months, I decided this was not a good idea.  While there, I was a short order cook.
  • Food service worker at Harvey's Restaurant in Altus, OK: 1976-1977
     After graduating from high school, I worked this job through my first year of college after which my father retired from the USAF, and we move to Cornelia, GA.  While at this job, I helped cook short orders and make ice cream desserts.
  • Food service worker at Hulies (hamburger restaurant) in Cornelia, GA:  1977
     Cornelia was a very rural town.  This was the first fast foods hamburger restaurant that opened there.  I worked there for a few months as a short order cook.  This rural town took some getting used to.  One had to drive long distances just to find a few places for shopping, eating, employment, etc.
  • Bundle Boy at Carwood clothing manufacturer in Baldwin, GA: 1977
     As I said, this rural town took some getting used to, and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, what was available, nor where it all was.  So, on the spur of a moment,I found this place and I applied for this job -- moving bundles of shirts from one machine operator to another.

  • Manager Trainee at "Pic-n-Pay" shoes, 1977.
     The first department store that came to this county was call "Sky City."  The shoe department was part of the "Pic-n-Pay Shoes" company.  That was how I found out about this job.  To train, I had to drive thirty miles one way along back roads everyday.  After about six weeks of that, I decided the cost wasn't worth the effort.  So, I looked for something else.

  • Wood shop laborer at Habersham Plantations in Cornelia, GA: 1978
     I had taken a wood shop class while in high school and thought this job would be interesting after I discovered it.  I worked there for only a few months.
  • Shipping Department clerk (slap-n-stick) at Carwood clothing manufacturer in Baldwin, GA:  1978-1979
     I had worked at this place before, but I learned of a job opening in its shipping department.  After talking with the manager, I decided to work there.  I stayed a year and half until I moved to attend Lee College in Cleveland, TN.  My job there required me to weigh boxes, glue labels onto them, and sort them according to trucking companies.
  • Breakfast cook for the cafeteria at Lee College in Cleveland, TN: 1979-1980
     My job here was to cook breakfast (eggs, grits, oatmeal, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, ham, etc), according to a rotation chart, every morning.  I did this through my first year at Lee College.
  • Student Snack Bar manager at Lee College in Cleveland, TN:  1980-1981
     My job here was to supervise the night shift snack bar operation.  I worked this job through my second year at Lee College.
  • Food service worker for Bonanza Steak House in Springfield, MO: 1982
     I transferred to another college -- Central Bible College, Springfield, MO.  I worked this job during the last semester of my first year at this school.  At this job, I helped cook steaks and prepare plates for meals.
  • Packing Line worker at Fieldale poultry processing plant in Baldwin, GA: 1982 (summer) & 1983 (summer)
     I worked this job for two summers while I attended Central Bible College.  At this job, I helped cut and pack chicken.
  • Minister of Youth at First Assembly of God in Sedalia, MO: 1983
     After I graduated from Central Bible College, I accepted this position.  My job included superintending the Sunday school, directing the youth program, and playing the piano/organ at this church.  
  • Minister of Youth at Forest Park Assembly of God in Forest Park, GA: 1983-1985
     I received a call from a pastor of a church in Atlanta, which was nearer to where my family lived, so I went to work at this church.  My job was to direct the youth program and occasionally play the piano or the organ.
  • Accounting Assistant in commercial loan operations at Sun Trust Bank, Atlanta, GA: 1985-1986
     The senior pastor of the Forest Park Assembly of God resigned his position, so that required me to resign too.  I decided to try to get a job in another industry.  At Sun Trust bank, I was a reconcilement clerk for the commercial loan operations department.
  • Accounting Assistant in loan operations at Sun Trust Bank of Clayton County in Jonesboro, GA: 1986-1987
     This affiliate bank was located closer to where I lived, so I went to work there doing the same job (reconcilement clerk) as I did for the Atlanta affiliate.
  • Relief manager at Shoney's Restaurant in Union City, GA: 1988
     After seeing a "management training" advertisement in the newspaper, I decided to apply for this job.  I was hired, and worked this job for a year.  I was trained to do every job in the restaurant.  My job required me to supervise the night shift.
  • Office manager at Atlanta Music City Hall in Atlanta, GA: 1989
     I was called by the owner of this business.  He offered me a job working during daytime hours.  I decided to accept the position.  My job required me to prepare cashier drawers daily, count all income and report shortages daily, prepare and make deposits daily, prepare payroll daily.  Unfortunately, the business closed after about six months.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Stockbridge, GA: 1989
     I didn't want to be a manager, and I felt I could make just as much money being a waiter.  This store was enjoying a season of very good sales, so I applied for a position there.  When sales began to fall, I requested a transfer to another company store.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Union City, GA: 1989
     I enjoyed a few months of waitering here.  Sales were good, so I made good money.  When the sales began to fall, I requested a transfer to the previous store.

      After waitering here for awhile, and after sales began to fall, I was offered a position as "Dining Room Manager" at the same store.

     My job required me to supervise all dining room staff and ensure good customer service.  While I was working as a Dining Room Manager, one of my customers asked if I would like to work at his company as an office manager.  I accepted his offer.
  • Office manager at Duke Contracting in Stockbridge, GA: 1990
     While working here, my job was to prepare weekly payroll, type invoices, type and print checks, and manage office supplies.  While I was working here, I decided I wanted to begin attending the University of Georgia and major in Home Economics to become a teacher.  After a few months, the company lost a major source of revenue and began falling a bit, so I decided to go ahead and resigned this position and move to another town to live with my parents while transitioning for my attendance at UGA.
  • Sewing machine operator at Duckhead Apparel in Baldwin, GA: 1990
     I had worked at this location before when it was called "Carwood."  While transitioning (preparing to move to Athens, GA to attend UGA), I worked here while living with my parents a few months.  I worked as a sewing machine operator until I moved to Athens, GA to attend UGA.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Commerce, GA: 1990
     This is the same restaurant company I had worked at before, but in a different location.  This one was in a town near Athens, GA.  I worked there a few months as a waiter to make money while I was settling down in Athens.
  • Waiter at Ryan's restaurant in Athens, GA: 1991
     After moving to Athens, GA, I worked, as a waiter, at this restaurant until I started classes at UGA at which time I was able to get a job on the campus.
  • Food service worker at University Food Services at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA: 1991-1992
     For the first three semesters while I was at UGA, I worked in two dining halls as a student worker and cooks helper.  
  • Student manager at University Food Services at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA: 1993-1994
     After three semesters at UGA, I applied for a student manager position for the University Food Services.  I worked this job for three semesters and I was required to hire and supervise the training of all student workers.  Also, I assisted all cooks and sanitation personnel during production hours.
  • Short order cook at Huddle House restaurant in Athens, GA: 1992-1995
     In addition to working on campus, I got a job at this restaurant.  This was a new restaurant built near my home and along my walk route in Athens, GA.  There, I worked as a short order cook. 
  • Teacher of Home Economics at Stone Mountain Middle School in Stone Mountain, GA: 1995-2001
      After teaching middle school (grades 6-8) Home Economics here for six years, I transferred to another school -- a newly constructed school -- in the same system.

  • Waiter at Denny's Restaurant in Atlanta: 1996-1999
     This was one of a couple second jobs I worked in addition to teaching.

     This was one of a couple of second jobs I worked in addition to teaching.
  • Teacher of Home Economics at Cedar Grove Middle School in Decatur, GA: 2001-2007
     I was thinking of starting "another chapter in my life, so I resigned my position here, and moved on.
  • Truck Driver for Werner Trucking of Omaha, NE: 2008
     After completing truck driver training to pass the exam for my commercial driver's license, I went to work for Werner.  While driving for them, I was in an accident.  While I was not cited for anything about the accident, it was severe enough to shake me up a bit.  I stopped driving 18-wheeler trucks.
  • Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for Jungchul Language School in Yeongcheon, South Korea: 2008-2012
     A Youtube subscriber told me about teaching English in South Korea.  He gave me his recruiter's email address, and I began the process.  My first teaching job there was in a rural town called Yeongcheon.  While there, my job was to teach the "Speaking" portion of the company's curriculum.  The job lasted a little over three years until the school owners decided to close the school in February, 2012.
  • Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for Jungchul Language School in Gumi, South Korea: 2012-
     This was my second teaching job in South Korea.  While there, my job was to teach the "Speaking" portion of the company's curriculum.
