Before you slam my "cockiness"...

Usually, there is only so much I want to say in a single posting.  The posting where I listed all the jobs I've ever had is likely to be the most lengthy of them all here in this blog.  Likely, I have been, and always will be, abrupt.  My intents here are to 1) keep my postings short and simple, and 2) to just put myself out there and see what happens.

Remember, employers (as far as I can tell) are in positions of power. Applicants are at their mercy.  Applicants are the nervous ones.  They are the ones who have to come to you.  Generally, they have come to YOUR office.  They have to call you.  They are the ones standing in line.  They are the ones who need the money.  Some of them can barely (if at all) afford the suit, tie, dress shoes, and computer they've felt compelled to use while searching and searching.  Some, I'm afraid to say, might even barely (if at all) have an address not to mention phone service (which, as you know, requires monthly payments or else).  They are the ones trying to figure out what you want so they can "make a good first impression."  They are the ones who, after going through all that, must wait and even face disappointments. I'm not saying that the positions of power equate to cockiness.  I understand that employers are looking for certain elements, have only so much to offer, and they have to be concerned about making good on their investments.  Still, with this blog, I'm kinda turning the tables and saying "you come to me," "you stand in line," "you have some conversations with me and tell me why you think we'd make a good mix working together."

Certainly, if you're not interested, then it may serve us both well that we both simply continue on in our own directions.  But, if you found me before I found you, and if you found yourself thinking something like, "Hmmm!  This might work out good for both of us," then what are you waiting for?  Start a conversation with me and see where all this can lead.  Just don't send me a generic ("send us a resume") kind of message.  Be real with me, and I'll be real with you.

June 15, 2013 is the expected date of my return to the USA.

It's official.  I've submitted my notice or resignation.  My current boss and I have set June 14, 2013 as the last day of my employment here.  She said she will book my departure flight (from Korea to Atlanta) to be on June 15, 2013.

As it looks, I will be going to Mt. Airy, GA.  As of today, I have not secured employment, so I am still available for hire.

Please contact me via. ronaldsbatson@gmail.com if you wish to discuss my employment.

My Cover Letter

Hi!  My name is Ronald S. Batson.  Since birth I've lived in three to six year cycles.  My father was in the U.S. Air Force, so we moved a few times (GA, TX, MD, AK, SC, OK, GA).  I've attended colleges and have worked jobs in four states (OK, GA, TN, MO).  Since October, 2008, I've worked as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language in South Korea. Lately, I've been thinking about beginning a new chapter (new job, new location, new adventure).  I'd be grateful for your response.

Honestly, I'm hoping to land a job (in the USA) where I can work eight hours a day, go home, live a simple life, and afford some medical insurance.  I don't want to have to own a car, for I'd love to be able to walk to work, walk to get most anything I would need at supermarkets, walk to the gym, and walk to some coffee shops.  Over time hours with over time pay would be okay.

I would need to give my current employer a notice of at least forty-five days.  I believe I could go to work anywhere in the USA where there's plenty of public transportation I can use to get to and from an airport.  I believe I could adapt well and quickly to a variety of work environments.  I have always been ready to learn something new.  I've always provided loyalty and excellent attendance for my employers.

My email address is ronaldsbatson@gmail.com.  That would be the best way to communicate with me for now, since I am still working in South Korea.

With my best regards to you and your business, I send you my gratitude for your time and consideration.

     Sincerely,

     Ronald S. Batson

What job situations do I (or don't I) usually enjoy?I

  • I enjoy starting on time and quitting on time.  Over time with over time pay is okay.
  • I enjoy just being a loyal, dependable employee.
  • I don't enjoy talking on a phone.
  • I don't enjoy cold selling.
  • I enjoy having tasks to do, and getting them done.
  • I enjoy knowing procedures and following them.
  • I don't enjoy being a manager.  I prefer to be subordinate to a manager.  I enjoy supervising, but not being a manager.
  • I enjoy helping others learn how to do things.
  • I enjoy typing.
  • I enjoy punching numbers in on a 10-key adding machine.
  • I enjoy walking.
  • I enjoy being considerate of other people.
  • I enjoy solo work and team work.
  • I enjoy dressing casually.
  • I enjoy not having to cut my hair or wear it any certain way besides clean and tidy.  I'd be happy to wear a hairnet if situations required it.
  • I enjoy cooking, baking, food prep (quantity and short order).
  • I enjoy office tasks.
  • I enjoy helping people set things up.
  • I think I'd enjoy working in a mail room, but I've never done that.
  • I think I'd enjoy working in a printing production operation, but I've never done that.
  • I think I'd enjoy assembly work (small things).  I've done some production sewing, and I enjoyed that.
  • I think I'd enjoy production work, but I've not done much of it.
  • I think I'd enjoy packing work, but I've never done it.
  • I enjoy singing, but don't think I could make a living at it.
  • I think I'd enjoy acting, but am not sure.

What living circumstances do I want?

  • I don't want to have to own a car.
  • I want to be able to walk to work (or ride a bike if I choose...).
  • I want a small simple, clean, place to live with ample water pressure, reliable internet connection, adequate heating and air conditioning, and laundry hook ups.
  • I want supermarkets, drug stores, gyms, and coffee shops to be within walking distance of my home.
  • I want plenty of reliable public transportation to be available.

I have over 1000 videos on Youtube.

From my videos, you can gather some ideas about me, how I've spent my time, and some changes I've lived through over the past few years.

and

All the jobs I've had from first to last

  • Bagging groceries at the commissary on the Charelston AFB, Charleston, SC: 1972
At this job, I loaded groceries into bags and carried them to customer cars.  Shortly after getting this job, my father was transferred to Altus, OK, so my family moved to there.
  • Food service worker at Harkin's Dairy Queen in Altus, OK: 1973
I worked this job only during the summer.  While there, I helped cook short order meals and make ice cream desserts.
  • Newspaper Boy for Altus Times and Democrat in Altus, OK 1973-1976
I delivered daily newspapers to my route of customers on the U.S. Air Force base where my family and I  lived.  I kept this job while attending high school, and while working other short jobs.
  • Food service worker at Sonic Drive In in Altus, OK: 1975
During my senior year of high school, I tried working a job while going to school.  After four months, I decided this was not a good idea.  While there, I was a short order cook.
  • Food service worker at Harvey's Restaurant in Altus, OK: 1976-1977
After graduating from high school, I worked this job through my first year of college after which my father retired from the USAF, and we move to Cornelia, GA.  While at this job, I helped cook short orders and make ice cream desserts.
  • Food service worker at Hulies (hamburger restaurant) in Cornelia, GA:  1977
Cornelia was a very rural town.  This was the first fast foods hamburger restaurant that opened there.  I worked there for a few months as a short order cook.  This rural town took some getting used to.  One had to drive long distances just to find a few places for shopping, eating, employment, etc.
  • Bundle Boy at Carwood clothing manufacturer in Baldwin, GA: 1977
As I said, this rural town took some getting used to, and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, what was available, nor where it all was.  So, on the spur of a moment,I found this place and I applied for this job -- moving bundles of shirts from one machine operator to another.

  • Manager Trainee at "Pic-n-Pay" shoes, 1977.
The first department store that came to this county was call "Sky City."  The shoe department was part of the "Pic-n-Pay Shoes" company.  That was how I found out about this job.  To train, I had to drive thirty miles one way along back roads everyday.  After about six weeks of that, I decided the cost wasn't worth the effort.  So, I looked for something else.

  • Wood shop laborer at Habersham Plantations in Cornelia, GA: 1978
I had taken a wood shop class while in high school and thought this job would be interesting after I discovered it.  I worked there for only a few months.
  • Shipping Department clerk (slap-n-stick) at Carwood clothing manufacturer in Baldwin, GA:  1978-1979
I had worked at this place before, but I learned of a job opening in its shipping department.  After talking with the manager, I decided to work there.  I stayed a year and half until I moved to attend Lee College in Cleveland, TN.  My job there required me to weigh boxes, glue labels onto them, and sort them according to trucking companies.
  • Breakfast cook for the cafeteria at Lee College in Cleveland, TN: 1979-1980
My job here was to cook breakfast (eggs, grits, oatmeal, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, ham, etc), according to a rotation chart, every morning.  I did this through my first year at Lee College.
  • Student Snack Bar manager at Lee College in Cleveland, TN:  1980-1981
My job here was to supervise the night shift snack bar operation.  I worked this job through my second year at Lee College.
  • Food service worker for Bonanza Steak House in Springfield, MO: 1982
I transferred to another college -- Central Bible College, Springfield, MO.  I worked this job during the last semester of my first year at this school.  At this job, I helped cook steaks and prepare plates for meals.
  • Packing Line worker at Fieldale poultry processing plant in Baldwin, GA: 1982 (summer) & 1983 (summer)
I worked this job for two summers while I attended Central Bible College.  At this job, I helped cut and pack chicken.
  • Minister of Youth at First Assembly of God in Sedalia, MO: 1983
After I graduated from Central Bible College, I accepted this position.  My job included superintending the Sunday school, directing the youth program, and playing the piano/organ at this church.
  • Minister of Youth at Forest Park Assembly of God in Forest Park, GA: 1983-1985
I received a call from a pastor of a church in Atlanta, which was nearer to where my family lived, so I went to work at this church.  My job was to direct the youth program and occasionally play the piano or the organ.
  • Accounting Assistant in commercial loan operations at Sun Trust Bank, Atlanta, GA: 1985-1986
The senior pastor of the Forest Park Assembly of God resigned his position, so that required me to resign too.  I decided to try to get a job in another industry.  At Sun Trust bank, I was a reconcilement clerk for the commercial loan operations department.
  • Accounting Assistant in loan operations at Sun Trust Bank of Clayton County in Jonesboro, GA: 1986-1987
This affiliate bank was located closer to where I lived, so I went to work there doing the same job (reconcilement clerk) as I did for the Atlanta affiliate.
  • Relief manager at Shoney's Restaurant in Union City, GA: 1988
After seeing a "management training" advertisement in the newspaper, I decided to apply for this job.  I was hired, and worked this job for a year.  I was trained to do every job in the restaurant.  My job required me to supervise the night shift.
  • Office manager at Atlanta Music City Hall in Atlanta, GA: 1989
I was called by the owner of this business.  He offered me a job working during daytime hours.  I decided to accept the position.  My job required me to prepare cashier drawers daily, count all income and report shortages daily, prepare and make deposits daily, prepare payroll daily.  Unfortunately, the business closed after about six months.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Stockbridge, GA: 1989
I didn't want to be a manager, and I felt I could make just as much money being a waiter.  This store was enjoying a season of very good sales, so I applied for a position there.  When sales began to fall, I requested a transfer to another company store.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Union City, GA: 1989
I enjoyed a few months of waitering here.  Sales were good, so I made good money.  When the sales began to fall, I requested a transfer to the previous store.
  • Waitier at Shoney's restaurant in Stockbridge, GA: 1989
After waitering here for awhile, and after sales began to fall, I was offered a position as "Dining Room Manager" at the same store.
  • Dining Room manager at Shoney's restaurant in Stockbridge, GA: 1989
My job required me to supervise all dining room staff and ensure good customer service.  While I was working as a Dining Room Manager, one of my customers asked if I would like to work at his company as an office manager.  I accepted his offer.
  • Office manager at Duke Contracting in Stockbridge, GA: 1990
While working here, my job was to prepare weekly payroll, type invoices, type and print checks, and manage office supplies.  While I was working here, I decided I wanted to begin attending the University of Georgia and major in Home Economics to become a teacher.  After a few months, the company lost a major source of revenue and began falling a bit, so I decided to go ahead and resigned this position and move to another town to live with my parents while transitioning for my attendance at UGA.
  • Sewing machine operator at Duckhead Apparel in Baldwin, GA: 1990
I had worked at this location before when it was called "Carwood."  While transitioning (preparing to move to Athens, GA to attend UGA), I worked here while living with my parents a few months.  I worked as a sewing machine operator until I moved to Athens, GA to attend UGA.
  • Waiter at Shoney's restaurant in Commerce, GA: 1990

  • Short order cook at Huddle House restaurant in Athens, GA: 1992-1995

  • Waiter at Denny's Restaurant in Atlanta: 1996-1999
This was one of a couple second jobs I worked in addition to teaching.

This was one of a couple of second jobs I worked in addition to teaching.

After completing truck driver training to pass the exam for my commercial driver's license, I went to work for Werner.  While driving for them, I was in an accident.  While I was not cited for anything about the accident, it was severe enough to shake me up a bit.  I stopped driving 18-wheeler trucks.
  • Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for Jungchul Language School in Yeongcheon, South Korea: 2008-2012
A Youtube subscriber told me about teaching English in South Korea.  He gave me his recruiter's email address, and I began the process.  My first teaching job there was in a rural town called Yeongcheon.  While there, my job was to teach the "Speaking" portion of the company's curriculum.  The job lasted a little over three years until the school owners decided to close the school in February, 2012.
  • Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for Jungchul Language School in Gumi, South Korea: 2012-
This was my second teaching job in South Korea.  While there, my job was to teach the "Speaking" portion of the company's curriculum.
